The most direct reason is that the chair's gas lift is broken. The gas lift is the most critical component for the chair's heigt adjustment.if it's faulty, the chair won't be able to move up and down.here are some possible reasons.

1 The gas lift's cylinder is leaking.

In current manufacturing processes, the cylinder is sealed with high-purity nitrogen. due to wear or prolonged weight,some of the nitrogen may come out.additionally. it's possible that the purity of the nitrogen sealed inside the cylinder is insufficient, or there may be an issue with the cylinder's seals causing a leak.

2 The gas lift has exceeeded its weight capacity

According to industry standards for office furnture, a qualified gas lift should be able to support up to 200KG, if the weight on the chair exceeds 200kg,for a long period, or if a user suddenly sits down with force, the impact could exceed 200kg. if the chairs weight consistently surpasses its designed cabacity, the gas lift is likely to fail. Additionally, users should be particularly cautious about sitting down forcefully, as this action compresses the gas inside the cylinder.When the pressure inside the cylindder exceeds 24 atmospheres,the gas lift can explode, which can cause significant damage.

3 The adjustment lever is faulty

The lever may not be able to properly press the button for the gas lift height adjustment, resulting in the chair being unable to up and down.following is the reason why the lever is not working well.

• If the gas lift is worn out or leaking, it cannot be repaired; we can only replace the gas lift to solve the problem.

• If it's an issue with the lift mechanism, the problem is easily solved. The cause is that the lifting rod has not pressed the button on top of the gas lift. We only need to adjust the lever to restore it to its original position.

1 How to determine if the fault is with the gas lift or the lift mechanism。

• If office chair used cannot adjust its height normally, this is one sign of a cylinder malfunction.

• When we sit on the chair, if it automatically lowers or if the cylinder hisses under gravity, this indicates that the cylinder is leaking.

• If the chair suddenly drops while we are sitting on it, and we feel it descend a noticeable distance, this means the chair's cylinder is broken.

• If the chair for office wobbles when we sit on it, and if the chair body moves from side to side as we shift our body's center of gravity, this also indicates that the area where the cylinder is fixed has become loose, and the gas lift needs to be replaced.

2 How to change the gas lift

Tool Preparation

• Rubber mallet/hammer (with a small wooden block)
• Lubricating oil or lubricant.

Disassembly Steps:

• First, move the chair to a spacious area and invert it, placing it on a stable surface or workbench so that the gas cylinder is perpendicular to the seat.

• To remove the chair body, follow these steps: raise the chair to its highest position, use one foot to firmly step on the base, and with both hands, hold the seat. Use one hand to press the height adjustment lever upwards while vigorously shaking the chair from side to side several times until the chair body is detached. If the person performing the operation lacks sufficient strength, this process may not be successful.

• In this case, first apply lubricating oil to the gas cylinder area and wait for 10-15 minutes. Then, use a wrench to loosen the screws on the base and detach the chair body from the base. Next, use a rubber hammer to strike the base until it is removed. Then, hit the bottom of the gas lift with the rubber hammer several times to remove the faulty gas lift.

Check the specifications of the damaged one

Purchase a gas lift of the same specifications from a supplier. Note that the dimensions must be identical. It is best to buy a branded gas lift, such as one from SHS of Korea.

Replace the old gas lift.

Before replacing the gas lift, it should be thoroughly inspected for any damage or defects, and accepted according to the national standards for gas lifts. Once acceptance is complete, we formally begin the replacement process. Simply insert the tapered end of the gas lift directly into the sleeve of the five-star base, and then align the sleeve of the chair's mechanism with the top of the gas lift. With this, the installation and replacement of the gas lift are completed.
